Kokeshi Dolls
Kokeshi こけし, are Japanese dolls, originally from northern Japan. Kokeshi were first produced by Kiji-shi (wood artisans) at the Shinchi Shuraku, near the Togatta Onsen, Zaō, Miyagi Prefecture, from where kokeshi making techniques spread to other spa areas in the Tōhoku Region. It is said that these dolls were originally made during the middle of the Edo period (1600–1868) to be sold to people who were visiting the hot springs in the north-east of the country.
All our kokeshi dolls are handmade in Japan.

Haru no Uta (Song of Spring)- £14.99 - Girl wearing red and white flowers. The creators name is etched in the side in Japanese characters. An extemely attractive piece and a favourite of ours.
Hanazumi (Flower Collector)- £19.99 - Girl wearing a full body floral and colourful kimono with flowers in her hair. Created by Fujikawa, a winner of the Prime minister's design award in Japan. This superbly crafted kokeshi comes with a wooden plaque featuring the creators name and award.
